Billy the Bandicoot
and the Big Drought tells the story of the search for water by a
cast of loveable native animals. Billy the Bandicoot is the lead
character, driven by thirst, joined by Nellie the Numbat, Katie
Koala, Paddy Pademelon and Brian the Bilby in a quest for fresh
water. The book's appeal is the beautifully illustrated native
animals, their quest for a goal, the local Australian topic and the
timely focus on how precious fresh water bodies are.
Kerry Kelly, a Townsville artist, loves painting and children.
Mother of five children and grandmother to two, Kerry has read
thousands of children's books and understands the need to entertain
both the child and the adult reader.
"This book evolved out of Friday morning painting sessions with two
friends, Petra and Vicki." said Dr Kelly. "We decided to focus on
illustrating James Patterson's story and after three years, we all
had different books." Kerry finalized her book with the assistance
of graphic designer, Manuela Frahm. Townsville author and biologist,
Len Zell, provided advice on publication.
